Music & Family
When I think of family, I think of someone that is related to me and someone I deeply care about. The person that I chose for my interview is my mom. My mom is someone I have a great relationship to and has a musical background when growing up.
Down below I will be sharing the questions that I asked her and tell you what she said;
"What was your favorite music growing up? What artists did you listen to the most?"
My mom's favorite music growing up was classical pop music. One of the favorite musicals that is still popular today that she grew up with today is "Grease", which represents the type of music her generation would grow up and listen to. This was particularly popular at the parties she would have when hanging out with her friends etc... Very much music consisting of classical pop music.
When I asked her what artists she would listen to the most, she would mention one in particular that would stand out. Her name is "Gloria Gaynor", and you may have heard one of her most popular songs "I will survive". She told me not only was Gloria her favorite artists, but her song "I will survive" was by far her favorite song, and is probably her favorite to this day.
"What was the role of music in your life?"
The role of music played a very significant role in her life. Not only did she enjoy listening to as much music as possible, but music had an extra significant role because she would be in a choir growing up. Every week, she would be with the choir practicing their voice and making music together. Music allowed her to make friends outside of school that she would get from being in a choir and listening to the sam type of music together. She also added, often time one meet incredibly good friends when joining a hobby that both has a certain interest for. In this case, it was music
"Did you play any instrument or sing in a choir? Did you enjoy it?"
Talked a little about this in the previous question. But yes, she did! My mom was one of the lead singers in her choir, and she really enjoyed it. She didn't play any instruments at the time, it was really just singing. I also asked specifically she enjoyed about the choir, and she would tell me the friendships that she made with people enjoying the same interests as her. She would go on of the music that they would sing, which was more of a classic but slow type of music.
"Did your musical taste change as you got older?"
For my mother, both yes and no. Her musical taste didn't necessarily change, but it expanded. To this day, she still enjoys listening to the same music she would listen to when she was younger, but today there is so many more artists and bands that has great music. Two of her favorite bands today are "Coldplay" and "U2". Personally, when I am home in Norway, many times I have heard that she listens to these bands. Even though her musical taste has "expanded", she still enjoys the music she listened to when she was younger and it brings back nothing but good memories.
